A member of the Arecaceae palm tree family, the iconic coconut palm can be found growing naturally along tropical coastlines in full sun. The coconut palm has stunning tall green foliage shooting from the coconut shell. This plant will make a big statement but can be described as needy and requires regular care.
Light conditions: will thrive in bright light and can cope with full sun, however do not place right next to a window to avoid extremes of temperature.
Neediness: this is a very needy plant that requires warm temperatures to be maintained and regular misting. Will benefit from regular dusting to keep pores open. Enjoys being placed outside during hot summer months.
Watering: ensure soil is always kept moist but do not soak the plant. Mist every two or three days to maintain high humidity levels.
Ideal location: bathrooms and kitchens, south facing rooms.
Rate of growth: very slow growing. It can take 5 years for a coconut palm to reach 5ft indoors.
Temperature: enjoys being warm, will do best above 21c during day and not below 18c at night.
Pets: This plant is safe around cats and dogs.
