Surely one of the most popular houseplants that ever was, the African Violet can provide a year-round splash of colour. They are also super easy to propagate from leaf cuttings. Compact plants, they look great displayed together in small pots which also benefits them by increasing the relative humidity. They are native to the Usambara Mountains in East Africa.
Light conditions: indirect, bright light (for example not on a windowsill that gets direct sun at any point in the day).
Neediness: They do require regular care to ensure they look their best. Turn the pots regularly so flowers do not reach for the light.
Watering: wait until the top layer of soil is dry before watering and aim to keep soil moist not soggy. Do not over-water as it can lead to root rot. Avoid touching the foliage with water, it is best to place water into a saucer below and allow the roots to uptake that way.
Ideal location: bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms and kitchens
Rate of growth: slow.
Temperature: can be kept at a normal room temperature, not below 16c. Avoid sudden changes in temperature.
Pets: This plant is safe around cats and dogs.
Sizing: W12cm x H20cm
