This easy to care for plant enjoys indirect sunlight with weekly watering throughout the warmer months or whenever the soil feels dry and less watering throughout winter. The leaves of this curious plant will close at night and open in the morning.
This plant won't do well with prolonged temperatures of over 25°C or dark and dingy locations.
The Oxalis Triangularis is also known as a 'Purple Shamrock', 'False Shamrock' and a 'Love Plant'. It's quite a rare and sought after houseplant, however rapidly rising in popularity due to a number of recent high exposure features in the press and TV.
If you do manage to forget to water an Oxalis or find that it's environment has changed and it's looking a little sorry for itself, don't think it's all over just because the plant looks like it's had it's day. These plants have been known to literally 'come back from the dead' due to the way they retreat into their bulbs below the soil, waiting for a little water to bring them back to life.
This plant is toxic to cats and dogs when ingested, however the bitter taste of the leaves usually prevents animals from eating enough to be harmful.
FACT: The flowers from this plant are edible and can be added to either salads or to decorate cakes.
