The Aloe Vera is famed for its skin healing properties, the most valuable part of an Aloe Vera is the clear gel found inside the leaves, which contain 75 health-giving nutrients, perfect for soothing insect bites, burns and sunburn. This is a surprisingly hardy and easy houseplant to grow.
Light conditions: to keep this plant happy position in bright light. Place near a window that gets light all day and it will thrive. In fact, too little bright light will cause the plant to go dormant.
Neediness: relatively easy to care for, hardy and tolerant of the occasional missed watering. Pruning is generally not necessary.
Watering: do not overwater! It is best to saturate the soil and ensure that the soil dries out completely before watering again. If the soil is wet day after day this could lead to the plant dying.
Ideal location: bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms and studies
Rate of growth: average, as the plant matures it can become very heavy so it is recommended that large specimens are in a heavy pot.
Temperature: will be happy kept at a normal room temperature
Pets: this plant is toxic to cats and dogs. See our range of pet friendly plants if your pet is prone to nibbling.
